Steve Spurrier says his Apollos could beat 2 NFL teams

Steve Spurrier was a fan favorite in the AAF, and a lot of fans were hoping he would make the jump to the XFL. We now know that isn’t the case as all eight coaches have been named for the league. When asked if he would consider coaching again he had the following to say:

“Something like that would probably be more my style if it came up again, coach about four months a year. Four, five, something like that,” Spurrier told Zach Abolverdi on the Locked On Gators podcast. “I need a year off. I coached eight games with the [Orlando] Apollos, I need a year off.”

As you know, the Alliance failed to complete its inaugural regular season. Of the game played, Spurrier was the winningest coach, leading the Apollos to a 7-1 record; which was two wins better than any other team in the eight-team league.

In fact, Spurrier said on the Locked on Gators podcast that he thinks his Apollos team could defeat two of the NFL’s weaker teams.

“I think our Apollos could beat the Jets and the Dolphins,” Spurrier told Abolverdi.

The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are still 0-3, perhaps Spurrier is right and the Apollos could give those teams a run for their money.

Spurrier hadn’t coached since 2015, when he decided to join the AAF to coach the. We don’t know if Spurrier will coach again after the AAF, we at least know it won’t be in the first season of the XFL.
