CFLPA President Solomon Elimimian Speaks Out on UFPA Claim

Yesterday CFL fans were rocked by the reports from the United Football Players Association (UFPA) that the league was considering cancelling the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Many fans and CFL insiders were skeptical of the news, and ultimately the CFL came out and addressed the rumors themselves. Although they never denied that the league was discussing the cancelation of the season, they did say that the UFPA has no insight into their decisions and they are moving forwards towards playing later this year.

CFLPA president Solomon Elimimian sent a memo outlining the union’s position.

There is an organization called the United Football Players Association (UFPA) purporting to have knowledge of the CFL, our bargaining, and the status of the 2021 and 2022 seasons. They do not!

The only credible information should come from your player reps or the CFLPA office directly.

Today’s statement by the UFPA has created unnecessary distraction as we remain focused on playing a 2021 season.

Our advice to you, when seeking information, is to contact the CFLPA office directly or your elected team player representatives.

At this point it seems like a game of he said/she said, but the CFL seems adamant that the league will see action this year. The 2022 XFL season is still on hold pending the outcome of the CFL discussions, but we’re hopeful that we see both leagues play next year.

Do you think the CFL will play this year? Will the XFL re-launch in 2022? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments or join the conversation on Discord.
