CONFIRMED: The CFL Will Explore Opportunities for Alignment with XFL

UFPA Indicates Strong Likelihood CFL May Cancel 2021 and 2022 Seasons

Last week we heard the explosive news that the CFL was exploring opportunities for alignment with XFL ownership. This news caused excitement, but also concern among fans. Buried deep in the XFL’s social media message was a note that the 2022 season was on hold until discussions with the CFL had concluded.

When this statement was released a lot of fans instantly thought the 2022 season was cancelled for sure. We had spoke to people close to the league after this announcement and we were told that 2022 was very much still on the table. They also indicated that they hoped discussions would be completed sooner rather than later. This was taken as hope that a deal would be complete and whatever the partnership looked like would playout over the next season.

Then, just today the United Football Players Association tweeted out an “important update” regarding the status of the upcoming CFL and XFL seasons.

According to them, multiple sources, including former and current league coaches and executives, have indicated that there is a strong likelihood that the CFL may cancel their 2021 and 2022 seasons.

We have not been able to confirm the claims just yet, but we’ll keep you posted once we learn more on the situation.
