Last week we reported that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had joined CNBC Tech Check and spoke about the upcoming XFL season. During which he dropped some new details for XFL fans to look forward to.
In the short spot he mentions that league news should be coming in the first couple months of the new year, including broadcast partners and new teams/cities.
We should maybe within the next month, or maybe two months, announce our broadcast partners, which we’re very excited about and new teams, new cities and very excited about that”
Clearly, this news sent the internet into a spiral trying to figure out which teams would be given a new identity and speculating on where they may land.
With the USFL now in the mix, the new league has effectively taken a few of the locations that we saw in the 2020 XFL. Although the two league’s schedules aren’t head to head, it possible that the XFL ownership group doesn’t want to tackle fan fatigue.
With the news now out and in the open, Dwayne Johnson shared the clip from his appearance on Tech Check, which at the time of publication has drawn over 2 millions views on Instagram.
The Instagram post essentially outlines what Johnson says to CNBC, but adds “new innovations and new alignments”.
When the XFL kicked off in 2020 it prided itself on its sensible rule book that didn’t stray too far from traditional football. The goal was to create a fast paced game that was enjoyable for fans, and safe for the players on the field. If we’re to see more innovations from the XFL, we hope that they keep the original mindset in place. But, we don’t mind a good twist here or there.
It’s been a long road here, but it seems that the wait is finally paying off.
We don’t have the details yet, but it looks like we won’t have to wait long. The beginning of 2022 should be an exciting time for spring football fans. We’re going to learn about the XFL’s road to 2023, and in the meantime we’re about to get a rapid fire of announcements from the USFL in regards to their 2022 launch.
