It’s been a wild year for the USFL so far, we’ve had so much news in a very little timeframe. With all eight head coaches now in position and the draft set for later this month, we’ve expected we’d see more information regarding the coaching staffs.
Last week we got our first look when Stars head coach Bart Andrus revealed a few members of his staff during an interview with Dan Sileo.
With just a couple weeks to go until the player selection meeting, we have another coaching hire in the books. Pittsburgh Maulers head coach Kirby Wilson caught up with TribLIVE.com where he stated that Jarren Horton is set to serve as the teams defensive coordinator.
Per Kirby Wilson on an interview with @TribLIVE, Jarren Horton will be the Defense Coordinator of the Pittsburgh Maulers. Wilson will call the offense.
Jarren Horton is son of Ray Horton who spent 10 years in the NFL as a defensive back for the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys, totaling 19 interceptions in 147 games, including five as a rookie in 1983. After retirement he transitioned into coaching. He was with seven different organizations from 1994-2019 and served in a variety of roles, including defensive backs coach, secondary coach, and defensive coordinator.
Jarren has taken in his father footsteps as coach after playing for Portland State University as defensive back. Most recently he served as defensive coordinator for UCONN. Prior to that he served as defensive assistant for the short-lived Atlanta Legends of the AAF.
As we mentioned, there’s only a couple weeks left until the draft, so look forward to more news just like this in the near future.
