All Eight USFL Teams Officially Revealed on The Herd

New USFL Promo Debuts During NFC Championship on FOX

Last week was the biggest for the USFL to date. Tuesday the league held a major media event at Protective Stadium where they officially announced Birmingham, Al as the headquarters for 2022. The deal will see all eight franchises play out of Protective Stadium and Legion Field for the first season, and hosting as many as four teams in 2023.

Additionally, the USFL revealed that the inaugural matchup would see the Birmingham Stallions taking on the New Jersey Generals. Not only did tickets go on sale for only $15 (Free for children under 15), they revealed that the game would be simulcast on FOX and NBC. This will be the first sporting event to be broadcast on two competing networks since Super Bowl 1.

That wasn’t all though, just two days later the league announced the final two head coaches live on The Herd. The announcement named Larry Fedora as head coach of the New Orleans Breakers, with Jeff Fisher coming in to lead the Michigan Panthers.

During the last Thursday Night Football broadcast of the season on FOX, we saw the first USFL promo. Since then, the network has aired USFL ads during every NFL broadcast. To date the league has released five 10-second promos, and yesterday we reported that a new promo should be coming during FOX’s coverage of the NFC Championship.

A source close to the league revealed that the promo would be entitled “Restaurant”. After the AFC Championship matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs, all eyes were on the NFC Championship to see who would meet the Bengals in the Super Bowl.

As expected, FOX capitalized on their last NFL broadcast of the season bringing even more exposure to their new league with a new promo.

The new ad is the first time we’ve seen an extended 30-second cut from the league. It features a restaurant scenario as we discussed previously, with a someone at a work meeting starting to daydream about football. In fact, we even get our first glimpse of one of the USFL jerseys. During one scene, the patron looks to the kitchen and the chefs transform into football players donning the Houston Gamblers uniform.

Now we look forward to the Super Bowl, where the USFL’s other broadcast partner is set to air the game. We’ve seen NBC promote the USFL via their chyron, but everyone’s hoping to see the USFL pushed on the network during the big game.
