When the XFL was building up towards their 2020 launch there was one team among the rest that had an instant following. It would make sense that the St. Louis BattleHawks would be one of the leagues biggest franchises, they were the only team outside of an NFL market.
Ever since the XFL was purchased out of bankruptcy, many had wondered if we’d see the league return to St. Louis. There’s been rumors of talks between league and city reps, but nothing concrete has come out of them. But, it looks like we may have some promising news on that front.
Frank Cusumano of NBC 4 KSDK reports that The Dome has reserved five weekend dates for next spring for possible XFL home games in St. Louis. This doesn’t seem like much, but he also states that the Dome is open to working with the league again. Which, we don’t blame them. The BattleHawks were on pace to pull in over 50,000 people for its week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Wildcats.
Clearly, the XFL is making moves behind the scenes before they make their locations official. We just learned earlier that TDECU is set to host the league in 2023, confirming the return to the Houston market.
It seems like a no-brainer for the XFL to return to St. Louis, and it looks like we’ll know here soon.
