FOX to Hold Formal Announcement on USFL in Birmingham Next Week

USFL Announcement on Season in Birmingham Reportedly Coming After New Year

This past October reports started circulating that the USFL was in talks with reps from Jefferson County and the city of Birmingham, AL to host their 2022 season. This news was the first we heard about the 2022 season since it was first announced that the league would be returning back in June.

Since then, the USFL has really started to gear up their efforts towards their upcoming return.

First we learned of their first set of hires, with Brian Woods coming into serve as President of Football Operations, Daryl Johnston as EVP Football Operations, Mike Pereira as Head of Officiating and Edward Hartman as EVP Business Operations.

It wasn’t long after that the USFL finally revealed all eight team names and logos live on The Herd. This was also around the time that the league confirmed that they will be kicking off in April 2022, and will be playing out of a central hub.

Although all signs point to Birmingham as the host, it still hasn’t been made official by the league just yet.

When’s it coming? Well, it looks like we may need to wait until the new year.

Jon Paepcke of WVTM 13 reports that multiple sources have told him that the news won’t be coming out until January at the earliest.

If you’re worried that something changed in the plans, you shouldn’t be. Earlier this month the USFL posted their first job listings, in which states that the season will be based out of Birmingham for 2022. It looks like they may want to make the announcement stand out, and with all of the news that’s been dropping they may be trying to spread it out a bit.

It was just earlier this week that the USFL officially announced that they have signed a multi-year deal with NBC which would see their games televised across their various broadcast affiliates for thee years.

Another possibility is that the league may be wrapping some other announcements in the reveal, possibly coaches or jerseys; I suppose we’ll just need to wait and see what the USFL has up their sleeves.

We’ll keep you posted as more information comes out on the upcoming USFL season in Birmingham. Make sure to follow USFL Newsroom on Twitter for all the latest news as it drops.
