Vegas Vipers Acquire Rights To Four XFL Combine Participants

A couple of weeks ago, the XFL held their combine rights draft. During the event, the Vegas Vipers selected four players, some of which could prove to be important additions to the team ahead of the 2024 season.

RB Brandon Outlaw
WR Ryan Davis
OL Kevin Toote
DB Anthony Cioffi

In the combine rights draft, seven teams acquired a total of 28 players. The Seattle Sea Dragons were the lone team to avoid selecting someone altogether.

Let’s take a look at who the Vegas Vipers picked up, and analyze the potential impact they could have in 2024.

RB Brandon Outlaw | USC

Brandon Outlaw has an accoladed career as both a running back, and a wide receiver. Outlaw played both positions in high school, and had a fantastic senior season, earning the following awards: 2016 NJ Super 100 team, Philadelphia Inquirer All-South Jersey second team, Courier Post All-South Jersey second team. He also won the state’s Mini-Maxwell Award.

Brandon took a unique route in college. He ran track for Virginia from 2018-2021, setting an indoor 400 meter record for the school in 2020.

Outlaw then transferred to USC, to play football. He only played a few snaps from 2021-2022, but is still looking to make the transition to professional football.

After impressing at the XFL Combine, he is now being provided that opportunity with the Vegas Vipers.

WR Ryan Davis | Auburn

Ryan Davis is another intriguing prospect, out of Auburn. He had an excellent career in Auburn, racking up 1,555 receiving yards and seven touchdowns from 2015-2018.

From there, he’s had quite the journey. Davis had a stint with the New England Patriots in 2019 – and actually was part of the XFL in 2020. He played for Marc Trestman’s Tampa Bay Vipers, with two catches for six yards in three games.

Since then, Davis has played with the Ottawa Redblacks for the past two seasons. With Ottawa, he’s posted 893 receiving yards and two touchdowns from 2021-2022. Davis has already proven himself at this level, and should be a solid addition to the Vipers offense.

OL Kevin Toote | Pace

Kevin Toote has continued to shine as a quality lineman throughout his career, no matter where he’s been. In high school, Toote was selected to the senior All-Star game, and earned Divisional player of the year.

He spent the next few years at Pace University, where he performed quite well. Toote got better with each and every year, showcasing his skill sets at multiple positions. In 2021, Kevin was a team captain, and won Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team honors.

Kevin Toote was versatile in 2022. As an offensive lineman, he was named NE10 First-Team All-Conference, and won the NE10 Offensive Lineman of the Year award. In addition, he saw a few snaps on defense and special teams – blocking two field goals. Toote brings plenty of depth to the Vegas Vipers, a team that needs help in this area.

DB Anthony Cioffi | Rutgers

Anthony Cioffi is back in the spring football scene. It’s been a long time coming, as the former USFL standout now finds a home with the Vegas Vipers in the XFL.

Cioffi was spectacular at Rutgers, compiling 169 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and eight interceptions during his career there. After a stint with the Oakland Raiders, Anthony spent time with the Ottawa Redblacks and BC Lions in the CFL, performing well.

Anthony was a key playmaker for the Tampa Bay Bandits during the USFL’s 2022 season. He finished the year with 36 tackles and an interception, proving to be one of the top safeties in the league.

Cioffi attended the XFL combine, and impressed, garnering interest from multiple organizations. Now, he’ll have a chance to revive his professional career in Vegas.
