Yesterday (Late Thurdsay/Early Friday) we reported that the XFL Shop seemingly revealed the upcoming XFL team names. It wasn’t too long after the report came out that the XFL Shop was scrubbed of all of the references.
Interestlingly enough, the XFL posted a new job listing yesterday afternoon for a website director. It’s unclear if the two incidents are related, but it definitely feels like it may be.
For those keeping track at home, the @XFL2023 is now hiring for a “website director”, listed today.

Prior to cleaning up the work being done in the background, the XFL Shop potentially gave us an early peak at the upcoming team names.
- Arlington Renegades
- DC Defenders
- Orlando Guardians
- Houston Roughnecks
- San Antonio Brahmas
- Seattle Sea Dragons
- St. Louis BattleHawks
- Vegas Vipers
Looking at the names, we see an interesting mix.
First, it would make sense that the league would give the Renegades moniker to Arlington as theyre serving as a partial hub in 2023. With New York out of the mix, Orlando looks to be inheriting the Guardians name.
Many hoped Vegas would see a return of the Outlaws, but with the USFL owning the trademark we’re seeing the former Tampa Bay Vipers move to the desert.
DC, Houston and St. Louis will regain their team names, but Seattle looks to be receiving a slight makeover. The Shop displayed both Seattle Dragons and Seattle Sea Dragons, which has drawn a few eyebrow raises.
Lastly, and possibly the most controversial of all, the San Antonio Brahmas. XFL co-owner Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has used the nickname ‘Brahma Bull’ in the past, and it looks like he’s potentially incorporating it into his new league.
The XFL is hosting various happy hour events next week, presumably after the big announcement is official. So, we should know if these are the final XFL team names in short order.
