FOX Exec Hints That USFL Promos Will Air During NASCAR ‘Clash at the Coliseum’

Last week was a huge week for the USFL. The league held a major media event at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, announced their final two head coaches and dropped their first 30-second promo during the NFC Championship game on FOX.

The media event at Protective Stadium not only officially announced Birmingham, AL as the leagues central hub in 2022, they also revealed new details on the opening game. It was announced that the Birmingham Stallions would be taking on the New Jersey Generals in the debut matchup. Additionally, the game is set to be simulcast on both FOX and NBC, marking the first time a sports event has been shared across competitors since Super Bowl 1.

Along with the details on the debut game, we also got ticket information. The league is providing a very affordable form of entertainment, with tickets only costing $10 for adults and free for children 15 and under.

We knew that a new promo would air during the NFC Championship, but we had no idea the league would be stepping it up as much as they did. After the new promo dropped, longtime Spring Football reporter Konnor Fulk tagged Edward Hartman and Robert Gottlieb, two FOX executives, and pontificated on if we may see some USFL promos on NBC in the near future; specifically the Super Bowl.

Robert Gottlieb, FOX EVP Marketing, chimed in and gave an answer that all USFL fans should love. He started by saying that NBC Sports is as excited about the USFL as they are, telling fans to stay tuned. This doesn’t necessarily answer the question, but reading through the lines you could make the argument that the network may start promoting the league in the near future.

But, that wasn’t all. Gottlieb also said that fans “may want to tune-in to the NASCAR ‘Clash at the Coliseum’ on FOX next weekend.”

Naturally, this is great exposure for the new league; especially when you consider that this is the first push outside of the football market. This weekend coming up is set to be a big one for NASCAR, and FOX is hoping to capitalize on the opportunity to promote their up and coming football organization.

We’re hoping to see a new promo this weekend, but we’ll just need to wait and see what we get. Hopefully you tune in, it should be a fun race either way.
