Breaking Down NBC's Ground-Breaking Deal With The USFL & FOX

NBC Promotes USFL For First Time During NFL Super Wild Card Weekend

Last month FOX put out their first set of promos for the upcoming 2022 USFL season. The first came during FOX’s last Thursday Night Football broadcast of the season. Since then, we’ve seen the USFL pushed during every NFL game aired on the network.

The league unleashed two more promos during the final week of the NFL regular season. This time around, we got another look at the game ball, all but confirming the style they’re going for in 2022.

FOX may be the owner, but they aren’t the only broadcast partner. The USFL officially announced that NBC had signed a media rights deal with the league to televise their games for three years. Although we’ve seen FOX pushing the league, we hadn’t heard anything from NBC; until now.

Leading up to yesterdays broadcast of the NFL Super Wildcard Weekend, NBC added a small USFL promo to their chyron.

Thanks to spring football super fan Seth Lessans, we get a look at the first mention of the USFL from NBC.

Many fans were hoping to see a new promo from the league, but this is a step in the right direction.

NBC kept the USFL promo in circulation all the way through the pre-show, but that was about it.

Regardless, it’s nice to see NBC finally acknowledge the USFL no matter how small it is. That being said, we do think that we’ll see more promotions for the league on NBC before the NFL playoffs conclude. At minimum, we expect to see the league get a mention or promo during the Super Bowl, which will be televised on NBC this year.

NBC will be hosting the late game today between the Chiefs and Steelers, so there’s still a chance we get one on the network before the weekend. We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled, that’s for sure.

Do you think we’ll see a bigger promotion push for the USFL during the NFL playoffs from NBC? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below or join the conversation on Discord.
