Oliver Luck Sues Vince McMahon for Wrongful Termination

Beautiful Game Group Adds Oliver Luck to Board of Advisors

One consequence of the XFL’s early closure was the loss of Commissioner Oliver Luck. Luck was terminated just days before the XFL filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Since then we’ve seen a lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon, and some back and forth. One thing that fans hoped for was that Luck would re-join the XFL under its new ownership group. Although the fans hoped this would be the case, all signs pointed to Luck moving on with his career.

Today, we’re learning via Sportico that Oliver Luck has indeed secured a new gig. Luck will be joining Beautiful Game Group’s Board of Advisors.

Beautiful Game Group is one of a series of recently formed private equity groups looking to invest in sports team ownership. In addition to being willing to take passive, limited partner stakes in major franchises worldwide, the partners also seek to invest in developing sports and leagues. As part of its strategy, the company says it wants to provide more active management based on ESG principles, which can cut operating costs and add value over time.

With the XFL officially announcing a 2022 return, the new owners have a little time on their hands to re-build the league. As of now, the roles of CEO and Commissioner still lay vacant. We’re hoping that isn’t the case for long, but it’s sad to know that Oliver Luck will not be filling that role.
