Yesterday the news broke that Bob Stoops would be returning to Oklahoma as interim head coach. This came off of the news that Lincoln Riley had decided to leave his position as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners to take over the program at USC.
Just a day after the news, Big Game Bob has put out a statement to address the situation.
First and foremost, I’m a program guy and whatever I can do to help OU and to support the players, of course I’m glad to do it,” Stoops said in a statement on Sunday. “I’ll do everything I can to help them finish the season in a strong and successful way and I look forward to that.”

Back when the XFL was ramping up towards their 2020 return, the league named Bob Stoops as the first head coach of the Dallas Renegades. This was a major announcement for a new football league, Stoops was coming from his short retirement from Oklahoma, where he became the winningest coach in college football history.
When the XFL was forced into bankruptcy due to COVID, Stoops went on to join FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff pregame show.
Now, it seems like Big Game Bob is getting back into coaching; at least in the short term.
It’s not likely that Bob Stoops will return next year, but at minimum he has another opportunity to get another win for Oklahoma under his belt. There’s already rumors of Kliff Kingsbury being a potential candidate.
