Bob Stoops takes voluntary pay cut from Oklahoma

Bob Stoops to Serve as Honorary Captain in Hawkeyes Opener

In a press release, the Hawkeyes announced that Dallas Renegades head coach Bob Stoops will serve as honorary captain for this Saturday’s opener against Miami (OH). Stoops rose to prominence with the Oklahoma Sooners, but his first foray into college football came at Iowa.

Stoops was defensive back for the Hawkeyes from ’79 – ’82, earning team MVP honors in his senior year.

Stoops rose through the coaching ranks over the next decade before joining Florida. He joined Steve Spurrier’s staff as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach in 1996, winning a national championship in his first year.

After two more seasons, Stoops was hired as head coach of Oklahoma; where he went on to become the winningest coach in school history.

The game takes place on Saturday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m. E.T. and will air on FS1.
