Some exciting news for XFL fans from this week: Hunter Niswander, former Punter for the DC Defenders, will be starting for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, according to Mike Mitchell.
With Cowboys punter Chris Jones likely needing surgery on his abdomen.
The Dallas Cowboys are expected to promote former @xfldefenders punter Hunter Niswander from their practice squad to replace Jones. @HunterNiswander would be playing in his first #NFL game on Sunday.

Hunter had been signed to the Cowboys practice squad last week, which he announced on his Twitter and Instagram accounts:
Blessed to join the Cowboys organization and continue the journey! To God be the glory! #Ao1#DallasCowboys https://t.co/EFTOx3xTCC

Due to Chris Jones’ upcoming surgery, it makes sense to see Niswander finally get a start in the NFL. He was spectacular for the DC Defenders in the XFL’s short 2020 season, averaging 46.8 yards per punt. With his talent at the punting and kicking positions, Niswander should be a fantastic addition to the Cowboys’ Special Teams squad.
Here at the XFL Newsroom, we couldn’t be happier to hear this news about Niswander. We’re always rooting for XFL players to make it to the NFL – especially guys like Hunter. A couple months ago we had the opportunity to interview him about his XFL experience, his football dreams, and where he wants to be. If you’d like to view that, you can do so here.
