The Spring League is retuning May 6th on FOX, FS1 and FS2. With the season fast approaching, we’re seeing more announcements everyday. Leading up to the XFL’s 2020 season The Spring League was a breeding ground for new talent. With the XFL on the sidelines for 2021 and 2022, there’s a lot of new eyes on TSL. The league has now expanded to eight teams and plans to play out of two hub cities; Indianapolis and Houston.
Indy’s North Division will be home to the Alphas, Aviators, Conquerors and Linemen. The South Division out of Houston will house the Blues, Generals, Jousters and Sea Lions. This years TSL coaching staff has a lot of familiar faces that XFL fans will remember. Jerry Glanville, Kevin Gilbride, Hal Mumme, the list goes on.
Well, today we’re happy to report that another recognizable name from the XFL will be joining TSL this year. Former Dallas Renegades and Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey will be joining the Blues in Houston. Dungey will work under former Houston Roughnecks defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell. Cotrell also spent time with the Birmingham Iron of the AAF and spent time on various NFL teams including the Cardinals, Chargers, Bills, Lions and Vikings.
Eric Dungey is Syracuse’s all-time leader in career passing yards, second in completions and third in touchdown passes. He is one of the most productive quarterbacks in Orange history. Forced into action as a true freshman when veteran Terell Hunt got hurt, Dungey played with grit, toughness and determination.
He helped lead Syracuse to an upset over defending the defending national champion Clemson Tigers in the Dome in 2017. Dungey then led the Orange to a 10 win 2018 season capped by a Camping World Bowl win over West Virginia. Syracuse finished that season 10-3 and ranked 15th in the country in the final polls.
Dungey didn’t see much playtime in the XFL with the Renegades, but hopes to turn that around with this stint in The Spring League. The Juice caught up with Dungey and he had the following to say:
I cannot wait,” Dungey said. “The last year and a half has been incredibly hard for everybody, and especially for free agent athletes. I can’t wait to get out there and play some football and have an opportunity.”
It’s incredibly frustrating to watch the NFL because I feel like I belonged out there,” Dungey said. “I saw guys that I played against and I compared myself to them. I can be there. I have to show that in The Spring League.”
