As we creep closer to the 2020 NFL season we’ve seen more and more XFL players get their chance to showcase their talents. In the last week alone we’ve seen multiple try outs and signings.
The first XFL player to get signed after the league was forced to suspend their debut season just five games in due to the Covid-19 pandemic was Houston Roughnecks quarterback PJ Walker. This made sense as Walker led the league in passing yards and touchdowns.
One player that we all expected to be signed shortly after was Cam Phillips. But, for whatever reason his name never came across the wire. Until now…
According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Carolina Panthers are trying out Cam Phillips. Phillips (six-foot, 174 pounds) was Walker’s top target with the Houston Roughnecks, leading the league in receiving yards and touchdown catches before the season ended.
The Panthers hosted are trying out WR Cam Phillips, a star in the recent XFL. He led all players with 455 receiving yards in just five games and lit it up with 9 TDs.
If signed, he'd join his XFL QB P.J. Walker in Carolina.

Phillips wasn’t the only former XFL star trying out for the Panthers either. He was joined by former Dallas Renegades wide receiver Jeff Badet and Los Angeles Wildcats wide receiver Saeed Blacknall.

Blacknall was most recently signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but was unfortunately cut earlier this week. The good news is, as we expected, he would get another shot soon to move to another NFL franchise.
As we get closer to the NFL kickoff we expect to see more former XFL players get their chance to make the next move in their career.
We’ll keep you posted as more players get signed to the NFL. You can stay up to date with all the latest transactions with out XFL to NFL Player Tracker.
