Earlier this week the XFL sent out it’s first wave of Commissioner’s invites to the upcoming XFL draft. So far we know that roughly 800 invites will be sent out, and 560 players will be drafted. The league has been actively scouting dating back to early spring with their Spring League events, as well as throughout the summer with their inaugural Summer Showcase.
Now reports are coming out that the league is also actively pursuing players currently contracted with the CFL. According to the Justin Dunk, it seems the league is looking at current Roughriders QB, Cody Fajardo.
Fajardo has spent time with the Toronto Argonauts, BC Lions and as stated earlier currently with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He is currently on a one year contract with the franchise and became starting quarterback after Zach Callaros was injured in the opening game of the season. On July 1st, he let the Riders to a victory over his former team (Argonauts) throwing for 430 yards. Fajardo continued to play well in the following weeks which prompted the Roughriders to trade Collaros to the Argonauts.
The Roughriders are currently 4-3, with a three week winning streak. The franchise may have put their trust in Fajardo, but that one year contract may come back to haunt them. As seen above, if the XFL is snooping around we very well may seem him take a chance with the new league.
