As we head towards the next XFL season (whenever that may be), we’re still following up on news from the leagues short 2020 season. Just yesterday we reported that former St. Louis BattleHawks DB Connor Davis had signed with the New York Jets; making him the 44th players to make the next step in his career. At the time we said that we expected to be more names announced as we get closer to the upcoming NFL kickoff.
Today, two former XFL receivers got their chance to showoff their skills in a tryout for the Chicago Bears. According to Off the Gridiron on Twitter, former Rengades WR Jeff Badet and former Defenders WR Austin Proehl received a tryout with the team today.
The #Bears had 8 free agents tryout for the team today.

Jeff Badet – Dallas Renegades
Badet declared for the 2020 XFL Draft, impressing team scouts at various combines, was selected as the fourth pick of the skills position phase by the Dallas Renegades. Badet became popular in the pre-season due to his unique face-masks that featured Allen Iverson, Michael Jackson, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

In his second game against the Los Angeles Wildcats, Badet caught six passes for 53 yards. He finished the 5-game season with 16 receptions for 108 yards.
Badet took to Twitter earlier today with footage from the tryout declaring that he’s “NFL or XFL ready”. We love to hear that he’s open to return.

Austin Proehl – Seattle Dragons
Austin Proehl is the son of former NFL receiver Ricky Proehl. Ricky played college football at Wake Forest and played in the NFL from 1990 to 2006 for the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams, Carolina Panthers, and Indianapolis Colts.
Austin was drafted by the Seattle Dragons in the open phase of the 2019 XFL Draft. He went on to score the first touchdown in the 2020 XFL season from a pass from Brandon Silvers in their opening loss to the DC Defenders. He finished the season with 16 receptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns.

We don’t know just yet if they’ll make the team, but it’s great to see more former XFL players getting an opportunity to show off their skills. We’d love to see either and hopefully both of these guys make it to the NFL, and we’ll be there to cheer them on this fall.
