June Jones to join XFL Houston as Head Coach/GM

We’ve been wondering who head coach/general manager of the XFL Houston franchise for a while now. We’ve seen all seven of the coaches names leak prior to the official announcement, and the eighth seems to be no different.

It has now been revealed that it will be former Hamilton Tiger-Cats Head Coach, June Jones, who will be filling the role. There is still no word on when the press conference will take place, but seeing that the name has been leaked I would assume sooner rather than later.

The 66-year-old Jones was known early in his career as an offensive innovator who specialized in the run and shoot offense. Jones is no stranger to Houston, where he coached for both the Gamblers (USFL) as a WR coach and the Oilers (NFL) as the QB coach. His offensive strategy helped develop future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Jim Kelly and Warren Moon in his two stints as assistant.

Jones’ has also coached for the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and most recently The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL), where he was Head Coach for the 2017-18 season and demoted to Offensive Coordinator.

UPDATE: We have just learned that the press conference will take place May 20th at TDECU Stadium.
