Now that all the Coaches have been named, what's next for the XFL?

Buyers Have Reportedly Shown Interest in Purchasing the XFL

It’s been a wild ride since the XFL was forced to suspend their season after the fifth week due to the coronavirus pandemic. Just earlier this week the league filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and reportedly Vince was open to selling the company.

Well, today it seems we have some more information on the subject. According to Forbes, aspiring sports moguls have contacted investment banker Andrew Kline about purchasing the XFL.

“There are many folks interested and calling us, but we are not working on anything, and without a billionaire stepping in for Vince, we are not interested,” Kline, a former NFL player who is now a partner at Park Lane, wrote in an email. “If Vince McMahon was 100% committed to the XFL, I think it could have survived COVID-19 and much worse.”

Forbed reached out to Andrew Kline, but he declined to name any of the potential XFL buyers.

The XFL’s parent company, Alpha Entertainment filed for Bankruptcy on Monday, less than a week after the league announced that it had suspended day-to-day operations due. The league halted play on March 20,  five games into its second season and at the time said they had planned on playing in 2021 and future seasons.

According to Kline, there may be a way for both leagues to co-exist if the NFL buys the XFL and turns the XFL Into a player development league similar to how MLB and the NHL’s minor leagues operate.

This is definitely promising news if you’re hoping that the XFL continues to exist. It’s hard to say if these are honest requests or people interested in what is being offered. Needless to say, if the XFL does return it’s possible it’s nothing like what we saw them build in the last two years.

We’ll keep you posted as more information comes out on this. Until then, do you think the XFL will return? Let us know your thoughts down below or join the conversation on Discord.

  1. I see it being more like Baseballs Arizona Fall League where teams show off their rookies in combo teams for the purpose of trading them.

  2. I would have zero interest if the XFL were operated by the NFL. Many XFL fans like myself
are tiring of the direction the NFL is going and the XFL helped remedy that despite having
less talented players. If the XFL is saved by outside interests other than the NFL, I would hope they would bring back Oliver Luck as commissioner. Truth be told that Luck would be a much better commissioner for the NFL than Goodell who everyone knows, (with the exception of NFL owners), has been an abomination.
Well, if any XFL executives are reading this, thanks for five extra weeks of football in 2020
and even for a whole season back in 2001. Hopefully, you come back from the brink and I, for one
would definitely renew season tickets for the DC Defenders. Maybe you could come back as a league somewhat owned by the fans like in Green Bay…..I know I would buy stock.

  3. I hope this is true. I want them to come back. I loved the concept and hope it stays the same.

  4. Many of us w ere really excited about and getting ready for the XFL to work I think and many football fans that I talked to at games was just getting into it wasn’t given much time so I wish someone would buy it now NFL or a billionaire willing to go through up and down people love football ??

  5. I’m italian and live in Italy. I saw all the twenty games played before the suspension and Iliked Very Much. I hope XFL returns in 2021 with the same rules.

  6. I would be surprised if the XFL returned. I have this gut feeling that this was another NFL Charade & the NFL felt so threatened by the early success of the XFL so they used the opportunity of the “Pandemic” to force a shutdown of Sports in general knowing full well it would force the XFL to fold!
Fortunately, so far, the entrenched other sports will be able to ride it out & survive. Trouble is that cities without an NFL team won’t have Football. That’s a sad state of affairs. It’s enough to sour the taste of the NFL even more than it already had been!

  7. I have been a football fan since 1965 and absolutely loved this version of the XFL. I hope we see this league survive and thrive in the near future. Without a successful league like this players like PJ Walker and others would have likely never found their way back to the NFL

  8. Maybe the X.F.L. should join the C.F.L. & change to 2 conferences, basically recontinuing the X.F.L.’s rules alongside the C.F.L. rules. Then the league buys out the A.A.F. assets & teams & the team names included. Then have most of the games broadcast on T.V. & cable.

  9. With the ensuing bankruptcy the only thing that is going to happen is the XFL is dead. It is sad to see that Vince gave up on this even quicker than 2001. Vince has never failed 2x and what this is telling me is that the WWE Investors pulled the plug once they realized his stock was sold to bank roll the XFL product. Vince and the XFL were a good fit but with the WWE starting to lose a fan base, Coronavirus coming into the USA, and the virus closing the sports landscape down, I think this is not on him. If the CFL was smart they would do a purchase of this league, the AAFL AND find a balance to kill the NFL.(Long shot there l know).

What truly needs to happen is that all the players drafted into the NFL should make it a point to thank the XFL for getting them a shot and getting drafted. The XFLS use of no kick extra points, and new rules regarding kick offs were amazing!
