Preseason Recap: DC Defenders vs Seattle Dragons

Preseason Recap: DC Defenders vs Seattle Dragons

As we’ve reported the XFL is holding their first two preseason games today. The first game up was a preview of the inaugural XFL game — pitting the DC Defenders against the Seattle Dragons.

The first touchdown (sort-of) in XFL history goes to BJ Daniels connecting with WR Mikah Holder, putting the Dragons up 6-0. One of the innovations the XFL is bringing to the game is the different types of point after touchdown options. With the first touchdown the Dragons opted for a 1-point conversion, which was successful

The Dragons didn’t stop there, within the same quarter they gained three extra points via a successful field goal attempt from Cole Tracy. Going into the 2nd quarter the Dragons held a comfy 10-0 lead.

The Defenders, not wanting to get too far behind came back and made a successful field goal of their own. Then to tie it up before the half Cardale Jones connected with WR Jordan Wstercamp.

Going into the second the Dragons were out to get revenge, unfortunately Brandon Silver was intercepted by Tyree Kinnel of the Defenders and cashed in with a touchdown.

This wasn’t the only interception of the game. In fact, the Dragons game back with one of their own. Nick Temple came in clutch for the Dragons taking control back for the team.

Ultimately, this lead to a touchdown for Ja’Quan Gardner. The Dragons were looking in good shape to take control of the game back to their side.

The game ended with the Defenders coming from behind for the win, ending it 21-16. If you’re a Dragons fan, I wouldn’t be too worried. These are just preseason games. The coaches likely aren’t running their best schemes yet, rather doing one last player assessment before they cut down the rosters from 70 to a 52.

The next game up is the St. Louis BattleHawks taking on the Dallas Renegades. We’ll keep you posted as information comes out from the game.
