The XFL Unveils Details on ‘Team 9’

Earlier this week we reported that Bart Andrus would be named the head coach the the XFL’s Team 9. The 9th team is set to based out of Dallas and used as a sudo-practice squad for all eight teams, supplementing their roster in case of injury throughout the season.

Just now, the XFL has released a lot more details on this ‘Team 9’. Team 9 practices are scheduled to begin Feb. 3rd. Players will be available to XFL teams for private workouts every other Monday starting Feb. 10. The league can also utilize Team 9 to test new technology, including equipment, and measure other physiological trends.

According to the release, teams are encouraged to pull players from Team 9 for at least the first two weeks. After that, it’ll be a league requirement to utilize Team 9 players to plug an open roster spot.

Team 9 will constantly get restocked to stay at 40 players as teams pull from the squad. By week 5 the XFL is planning for th 40 remaining players of Team 9 to be absorbed by each of the eight franchises. Each teams roster will effectively move from 52 to 57 players. Team 9 will then be restocked to roughly 36 players until the season concludes.
