XFL Co-Owner Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson To Join Manning’s For MNF

After the XFL was forced into bankruptcy due to COVID, it was purchased by Dany Garcia, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and RedBird Capital. After the purchase, there was a long drought from the league, which was broken when they announced they were talking with the CFL to build a possible business partnership in 2021.

Ultimately, the talks didn’t lead anywhere; but when they concluded the XFL officially postponed their return to 2023.

The league once again went dark, that is until November when they revealed their first set of hires under the new ownership group.

Since then, we’ve been hearing a lot more from the XFL. In fact we even know their return timeline.

Going into 2022, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson joined CNBC where he stated that XFL news would be coming early in the new year. Among the topics discussed, he said broadcast partners and new teams/cities would be some of the major news items coming down the pipeline.

Although this isn’t specifically XFL related, it is definitely interesting when you look at the grand scheme of everything. It was just announced that XFL co-owner Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will be joining the Manning’s for the alternative broadcast of Monday Night Football.

The broadcast kicks off this Monday night at 8:15pm ET on ESPN 2, serving as an alternative commentary stream for the game. This is also the first time that Monday Night Football will host an NFL playoff matchup.

Circling back to the XFL, it’s been expected that one of the league’s broadcast partners would be ESPN. While this by no means confirms that, it does show that The Rock not only has a friendly relationship with the network, but one of his competitors in the NFL.

It definitely is interesting that the XFL would share this post across all of their official social media channels, if there wasn’t something possibly coming surrounding the league.

We’ll definitely be tuning into the alternative broadcast now, and hopefully if we’re lucky maybe we’ll get some of that XFL news we were promised at the end of 2021.
