Earlier this week we all learned the explosive news that the CFL was exploring opportunities for alignment with the new XFL ownership group. The news was initially confirmed by the CFL, which lead to responses from co-owners Dany Garcia, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the official XFL social media accounts.

Buried in the XFL’s announcement, at the bottom of the thread, was the news that the XFL 2022 season was now on hold pending the outcome of the conversations with the CFL. Needless to say, this shocked a lot of fans. Would the season be delayed later in 2022? Would it be bumped to 2023? The answers were unclear.
Since then, we spoke to sources close to the league and they have ensured us that the XFL is still targeting a 2022 return, and that the discussions with the XFL and CFL could be finalized in the next few months. We’ll just need to wait to see how this all plays out.
The league must have sensed the panic amongst the fans, just later in the week the XFL updated it’s website with some new frequently asked questions.
1. When will the XFL kickoff?
The XFL 2022 season is on hold, pending the outcome of conversations with the Canadian Football League (CFL). We look forward to being back on the field as soon as possible.

5. Are you selling XFL merchandise?
Yes, our online XFL Shop is open.
As you can see, there’s not really any more information that we can pull from this. If anything, we can see that the league is still listening to the fans, just trying to hold them at bay until they have something solid to announce.
Beyond the FAQ’s, the XFL also added a new section labeled ‘XFL Today‘. The new section outlines the new leadership with bios for Dany Garcia, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, RedBird Capital and XFL President/CEO Jeffrey Pollack. It’s been a while since we’ve seen some revisions to XFL.com, so any update is worth talking about.
The XFL’s dynamic new ownership group, led by Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, and RedBird Capital Partners, is excited to be building a league of culture, passion and purpose focused on our players, coaches, cities and fans. The XFL will again deliver authentic, high-energy football for all at an affordable price and showcase fast-paced games.
Clearly the wheels are moving in the background, we’ll just need to hang on just a little longer until we have more information on the direction of the XFL. Regardless of when it happens or when kickoff occurs, you can count on XFL Newsroom to keep you updated!
