XFL Was Reportedly Looking to Relocate 3 Teams leading up to Bankruptcy

It’s been a wild ride since the XFL was forced to suspend its season halfway through the season due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, they have officially suspended daily operations laying off all of its employees and as of earlier this week they have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It seems the league was still making moves right until the end. According to Chuck Miketinac of FOX San Antonio the XFL was calling several cities to gauge potential interest in a relocating one of the existing franchises to their town. One of those locations was San Antonio, former home of the AAF‘s Commanders.

“Two sources told us San Antonio had exploratory conversations with the XFL about the league possibly moving one of its existing teams to the Alamo City.”

According to Miketinac, it seems the XFL was looking to relocate up to three of its teams. Before the league ended fans had speculated the the league would look to move some of the teams based on attendance. The Los Angeles Wildcats, New York Guardians and Tampa Bay Vipers would have been prime candidates as they all averaged less than 12,000 fans per home game

We may never know the answer to these questions, but if we ever find out more on this subject we’ll make sure to keep you posted.

What teams do you think the league was planning on moving? Let us know down in the comments below or join the conversation on Discord.

  1. I think New Yorl, Los angeles and Tampa Bay could be changed with San Antonio, Oakland and Birmingham, or Portland.

  2. First of all, I hope the XFL can be purchased and in operation for the 2021 season. I think, it can be a league for the NFL to test future players right out of college. The NFL can have some what of a role in paying the XFL teams to help facilitate the leagues growth and financing.

New York —> Omaha (Change name to BlackHawks, from the UFL)
    Tampa Bay —> New Orleans
    Los Angeles —> San Antonio

  3. Dallas to San Antonio (Renegades)
    Tampa to Orlando (Vipers)
    LA to San Diego (Wildcats)

Just can’t see 3 Tx team with 0 Ca teams. SA, Orlando and SD drew well with the AAF. NY relocates stadiums only.

    Claws up! Go Cats!!!!

  4. Oakland hands down will be the best choice for the XFL. THE FANS ARE LOYAL AND THEY ARE STARVING FOR SOME FOOTBALL SINCE THE RAIDERS LEFT THEM. IT’S A NO BRAINER. IT WAS THE NFL’S 4TH LARGEST MARKET AND YET THEY LEFT. BOY OH BOY WHOMEVER GETS THAT AREA IN THE BAY WILL BE VERY SUCCESSFUL.

  5. I have to agree that the moves which make the most sense are: LA to San Diego, Dallas to San Antonio and Tampa Bay to Orlando. Also having Birmingham and Oakland available as expansion when they are ready to expand to ten.
